Clinical Data Registry

Increasing the Quality and

Value of Spine Care

We are pleased to announce that for the second year in a row, a Spine Institute for Quality (Spine IQ) clinical data registry has been designated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid as a qualified clinical data registry (QDCR) for CMS Quality Payment Program (QPP) Merit-based Incentive Payment System.

“Increasingly, health care professions use registries to establish the value of the care they provide. They will become even more important as the world moves towards performance-based payment systems,” according to Christine Goertz, DC, PhD, Spine IQ chief executive officer.

Using the power of data, the Conservative Spine Care Registry QCDR for 2017 empowers clinicians, including doctors of chiropractic, to enhance the quality and consistency of spine care delivery. The registry includes 27performance measures, 24 existing QPP (previously PQRS) measures and three custom measures: change in pain intensity, change pain interference and repeat X-ray imaging. Thanks to Spine IQ's partnership with ChiroTouch, the largest EHR vendor in chiropractic, approved patient information can be directly uploaded into the registry without additional data entry for the majority of these performance measures.

Computer-based clinical data registries shine a light on the natural history of disease, determine clinical effectiveness, ascertain the cost-effectiveness of health care services while measuring and monitoring safety and quality.

Why Join a Clinical Registry?

As a member of a clinical registry, you can use the insights provided to realize relevant benefits:
  • Track outcomes such as change in pain intensity and pain interference across your entire patient population;
  • Improve patient follow-up by using data to identify patients who are not meeting performance benchmarks;
  • Demonstrate the value of your practice to patients, payers and other stakeholders by benchmarking yourself on 27 performance measures;
  • Meet Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulatory requirements for MIPS;
  • Contribute real patient data towards research efforts that can answer important questions about spine care best practices and performance-based payment systems.

This QCDR is an example of Spine IQ's commitment to increasing the patient-centered value of spine care by leveraging the conservative spine care model, education and research as well as quality benchmarking.
