Beth Brooks, CAE

Beth Brooks graduated from Texas Lutheran University with a degree in Education but has spent her whole career in the association world.

Beth has worked in the association profession for 33 years starting with the Texas Dental Association. After a 10 year stint with TDA, she became the Executive Director for the Texas Pest Control Association. For the past 14 years, she has been the CEO of the Texas Society of Association Executives (the association of associations in Texas).  

In her role at TSAE, she counseled many executives and their boards on governance and strategic direction.  She is a sought after speaker on many association topics and has worked with numerous associations on governance, Board orientation, and strategic planning.  She is a regular contributor for the TSAE magazine, and writes a monthly “Association Insights” column for the TSAE website.  Her book, The New CEO’s Guide was just published by ASAE…. it is for new or aspiring association Executive Directors/CEO’s.  

Beth is a Certified Association Executive, the highest professional designation earned in the association profession.

As a lifelong volunteer Beth has served all roles as a volunteer including: committee member, instructor, Board member, and Chairman.  Some examples of volunteer involvement: Austin Crime Stoppers, Lakewood Homeowners Association; Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau; Alliance for State Societies; American Society of Association Executives; Dress for Success; Anderson High School baseball; Anderson theatre; Anderson Landscape, and Project Graduation.

She is married to professional speaker David Brooks and they have one son, Matthew age 21, who is a junior at Concordia University. Her special interests are baseball, swimming, curling, travel, gardening and reading.

Executive Director Round Table - Facilitator
 During this three-hour session, participants will hear some tangible and intangible advice from an Association Executive who has worked with 24 different volunteer Chairmen. With real world examples, the points will deal with improvement and awareness of what it takes to serve as an association Executive Director…. All lessons learned from observing association successes and failures. This session will also include a facilitated roundtable -- participants will be able to share your successful ideas and programs (and even some” lessons learned”) with each other. Bring samples, and be prepared to participate and take away some great ideas.

Board Matters
 No matter how long you have been in your position, understanding Best Practices in the governance arena is vital for anyone who works with a volunteer Board.  This quick one-hour session will review policies that should be in place, a review of the nomination process, strategic planning, and Board effectiveness, meetings and orientation.
